ITINERARY

Laos   -  10days 9 nights

DAY 1: LUANG PRABANG – ARRIVAL

Welcome to the spiritual capital of Laos! Meet your guide and transfer to your hotel.

Please note standard check-in time is 14:00.

Overnight in Luang Prabang

DAY 2: LUANG PRABANG – CITY TOUR – PAK OU CAVES B, L, D

The city tour begins with a visit to the former Royal Palace, now is National Museum, and temples of Wat Mai, Wat Sensoukarahm, Wat Xieng Thong, Wat Visoun.

In the afternoon, enjoy a half-day river cruise to the famed Pak Ou Caves. Explore the two limestone grottoes, which house approximately 4,000 sacred Buddhist statues and images which range from mere centimeters up to 2m (7ft) in height. Return to Luang Prabang by cruise with a stop en route at the village of Ban Muang Keo and observe local weavers and whisky distillers honoring their timeworn traditional crafts.

In the evening, participate in a unique traditional Lao ceremony known as the Baci with the local community on the island. The Baci is performed in celebration of important events such as weddings, births, or for welcoming guests, and is a means of expressing goodwill and good luck to others.

DAY 3: LUANG PRABANG – ALMS GIVING – KUANG SI WATERFALLS B, L

For early risers, there is a very special dawn visit to watch the monks collecting the alms. As the sun begins to rise, long lines of orange-robed monks leave their pagodas and walk barefoot down the streets collecting offerings from Luang Prabang residents.

After breakfast at hotel, take 1 hour drive south of Luang Prabang, with stops at the vibrant Phousi Market and the nearby Ock Pop Tock Weaving Centre, a social enterprise working primarily in the field of textiles, handicrafts and design. Continue on to the waterfalls, and take a leisurely hike through the natural park past the Asian Bear Rescue Center. Swimming in the refreshing waters is possible, although between November and January the water temperature is very cool (please dress modestly). After lunch time, return to your hotel.

In late afternoon, climb the 328 stairs of Mount Phousi and watch the sun set over the city and surrounding hills. Visit the hill tribe evening market for some shopping. Then transfer back to your hotel or spend more time at the market.

DAY 4: LUANG PRABANG – XIENGKHOUANG B

Leave for Phonsavanh. Visit Xieng Khouang to see the beautiful landscapes of green mountain and karst limestone.

Overnight in Xiengkhuang

DAY 5: XIENGKHOUANG B

Visit of plains of Jars - the main attraction in Xieng Khouang, which was renowned for the beauty of its many temples and stupas. You can take your time to learn about its history.

If time permits, we see the old capital of Muang Khoun and the nearby villages, home to the Hmong hill tribe people. They have an interesting local culture and a colorful history.

Back to hotel.

Overnight in Xiengkhuang

DAY 6: XIENGKHOUANG – VANG VIENG B

After breakfast, depart for Vang Vieng. Admire the Karstic mountain range and splendid landscapes in the surrounding area. Enjoy the special moment at sunset time from the cruise along Nam Song River.

DAY 7: VANG VIENG – FULL DAY B, L

Spend a full day trekking in the Lao countryside visiting caves and remote farms. Visit a few significant caves including: Tham Chang, notable for sheltering villagers during the Chinese Haw invasion in the 19th century, and again during Laos’ civil war; Tham Hoi which winds its way deep into the mountain with a crystal clear spring at the end, swimmable when the cave is lit up by candles; and Tham Loup, the area’s most beautiful, known for its amazing stalagmites and stalactites. Enjoy a picnic lunch at a scenic spot surrounded by limestone hills. In the afternoon, trek for two more hours, visiting an organic farm where mulberry tea and a variety of fruit wines are produced. Later, return to Vang Vieng.

DAY 8: VANG VIENG – VIENTIANE B, L

Head to Nam Ngum Lake, take a boat trip to have the spectacular view of many small islands there. Visit the Laos fishing village of Tha Heua to have a glimpse of the local life.

From here, continue the drive towards Vientiane (another 2.5 hours). Upon arrival, check in to the hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day free at leisure. Take a stroll along the bustling riverside area or do some shopping in the evening markets.

DAY 9: VIENTIANE B

Visit some of Vientiane’s landmarks: temples of Wat Sisaket, Wat Phra Keo and Wat Simuang. Also visit the Arc de Triomphe-like Patuxai Victory Monument, a war monument dedicated to those who fought in the struggle for independence from France. End the tour with a visit to That Luang, a large gold-covered Buddhist stupa in the centre of Vientiane.

The rest of the day is free at leisure.

DAY 10: VIENTIANE – DEPARTURE B

Free at leisure until transfer to the airport for flight back home.

Note: normal check-out time is 12pm.
